Feelings of wistfulness and celebration are explored in these works by Smetana, Montgomery, and Schumann.
Concert 2/5 in the Looking Back, Moving Forward series. The theme of nostalgia continues to be explored in this second concert featuring works chosen by violist Daniel Dona. Smetana’s overtly programmatic String Quartet No. 1, which he titled “From My Life”, features musical reminiscences of both happy and sad times. Schumann’s third string quartet heavily features a musical motif inspired by his wife Clara, and each movement depicts a journey filled with the spirit of Romanticism and storytelling. Jesse Montgomery’s Strum “has a kind of narrative that begins with fleeting nostalgia and transforms into ecstatic celebration.”
Tickets are $25 for general admission. Free for students (with ID).
